Skydiving near Milan: how to plan a day trip from the city
Published on October 7, 2026 · 8 min read

Yes, you can go skydiving on a day trip from Milan. You can do it at Francesco Cappa Airport in Casale Monferrato, in Piedmont, about 75 km from Milan: around an hour's drive, 2-3 hours at the airfield, and you are back in Milan by the afternoon. A tandem skydive costs €180 on weekdays and €200 at weekends, paid on the day.
This guide is for visitors staying in Milan, from Italy or abroad, and for locals looking for something different to do on a day off. It covers getting there by car, by train and from the airports, how to plan the day, what to bring and what happens if the weather turns.
Key points
Ready to jump? Book your tandem with no advance payment.
Book now- Leave Milan in the morning, be back in the afternoon: plan 2-3 hours at the airfield, check-in and briefing included.
- Driving is the easiest option: A4 and A26 motorways to the Casale Monferrato Sud exit, then free parking at the airfield.
- By train it works on weekdays with a change at Mortara; on Saturdays and public holidays trains to Casale are very limited.
- A tandem jump costs €180 on weekdays and €200 at weekends, with no payment upfront.
- On holiday? Book for the first days of your stay: if the weather stops the jump, the date moves at no cost.
Can you go skydiving in Milan itself?
Not inside the city: skydiving needs an airfield for the jump plane and a clear landing area, and Milan has neither. So anyone searching for "skydiving Milan" ends up at a drop zone outside the city. Ours is at Francesco Cappa Airport in Casale Monferrato (province of Alessandria), about 75 km from Milan, which makes it an easy day trip. The full route is on our page about skydiving from Milan.
You jump tandem: you are harnessed to a certified instructor who handles the exit, the parachute opening and the landing. No experience and no medical certificate are needed. You must be at least 16 (under-18s need written consent signed by both parents), weigh no more than 100 kg and be in good health. Step by step, the day is explained on our first jump page.
How do you get there from Milan by car?
This is the most practical option, especially at weekends. From Milan take the A4 motorway towards Turin (Torino), then the A26 towards Alessandria, and leave at the Casale Monferrato Sud exit. From there, follow the signs for Aeroporto Francesco Cappa, on the main road to Alessandria (SP31). Allow about an hour, a little more if you leave Milan at rush hour.
There is a large free car park at the airfield. If you are travelling without a car, consider renting one for the day: it is the simplest way to arrive on time for your slot, and it leaves you free to explore the Monferrato hills afterwards.
Can you get from Milan to Casale Monferrato by train?
Yes, with one important limitation. In the current timetable we checked, the usual weekday route involves one change: a regional train from Milan to Mortara (about an hour, with departures from stations including Milano Rogoredo and Milano San Cristoforo), then a regional train from Mortara to Casale Monferrato (about 33 minutes).
The catch is the weekend: in the same timetable, trains between Mortara and Casale do not run on Saturdays or public holidays, and services between Casale and Alessandria are sparse on those days too. If you want to come by train, pick a weekday when we are open.
| Period | Days we are open | Best days by train |
|---|---|---|
| October | Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday | Friday and Monday |
| November to March | Friday, Saturday, Sunday | Friday |
| From April | Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday | Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday |
We are always closed on Wednesdays. Timetables and connections change during the year, so check your journey on the Trenitalia website before you travel, with Casale Monferrato as your destination.
From Casale station to the airfield
Francesco Cappa Airport is outside the town, about 4 km by road from Casale Monferrato station. We do not offer a transport service, so if you come by train, plan the last stretch before you set off.
Flying into Malpensa, Linate or Bergamo?
If you land and pick up a rental car at the airport, you can drive straight to the drop zone without going through central Milan. The times below are no-traffic estimates from an OpenStreetMap-based route planner, so allow some extra margin.
| Starting point | Approximate driving time |
|---|---|
| Milan city | About 1 hour |
| Malpensa Airport | About 1 hour 15 minutes |
| Linate Airport | About 1 hour 30 minutes |
| Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport | About 1 hour 40 minutes |
Without a car, head into Milan first. According to Trenord, the Malpensa Express reaches Milano Cadorna in about 37 minutes and Milano Centrale in about 51 minutes; from there, continue by train as described above. One practical tip: do not book your jump for the day you fly in or out, so a delayed flight does not cost you the experience.
How to plan the day
Jumps take place during the day, usually between 9am and late afternoon; we confirm your exact time after you book. Arrive at least an hour early for check-in and the briefing. Plan 2-3 hours at the airfield in total: the jump itself, from the moment your instructor harnesses you to the landing, takes about 45 minutes.
A typical day with a morning jump:
- Drive out of Milan, about an hour on the road.
- Arrive at the airfield at least an hour before your slot: check-in, briefing with your instructor and kitting up.
- About 25 minutes climbing to 4,200 metres, then 50-60 seconds of free fall at around 200 km/h and a few minutes under the open canopy.
- After landing, lunch in Casale or in one of the Monferrato villages.
- A free afternoon in the old town or the hills, back in Milan by evening.
Friends and family are welcome to come along: the airfield has a waiting area with a bar, where they can watch the jump and see you land.
How much does it cost?
The price is all-inclusive: the flight to 4,200 metres, the briefing, all the equipment and a certified instructor. There is nothing to pay upfront: booking is free and you pay on the day of the jump.
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Tandem jump, weekday | €180 |
| Tandem jump, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays | €200 |
| HandyCam video filmed by your instructor | +€40 |
| Professional photos or video | +€70 |
| Professional photos and video | +€90 |
So the most you can spend is €290 per person. The full breakdown, with a calculator for couples and groups, is on our prices page.
What to bring and what to wear
- Comfortable closed shoes and sporty clothes suited to the season.
- We provide the jumpsuit, harness, helmet and goggles, so there is nothing to rent.
- Glasses and contact lenses are fine: the goggles fit over your frames.
- If you are under 18, written consent signed by both parents.
- A light meal beforehand and some water: no other preparation is needed.
If you are travelling with just a suitcase, you do not need any technical gear: a pair of trainers and comfortable clothes are enough.
What if the weather is bad?
We jump all year round, but heavy rain, fog or strong wind stop the jumps. If that happens we move your booking to another date that suits you, at no cost, and since you have not paid anything upfront you lose nothing.
For visitors the advice is simple: schedule the jump early in your trip, so that if the weather does not cooperate you still have time to rebook before you leave. To get the date you want, book a couple of weeks ahead, especially in the busier periods.
Make a day of it in the Monferrato
The jump takes half a day, and the rest can become a proper trip out of the city. Casale Monferrato has an old town that is easy to explore on foot, surrounded by the Monferrato hills with their villages and wineries. If you want to stay the night, you will find practical ideas in our article on what to do for a weekend in the Monferrato.
And if, once you land, you want to do it again on your own, there is always the AFF course. But a tandem jump is a complete experience in itself, with no obligation to go further.
Picked your day? Book your jump: booking is free and you only pay on the day. If you are coming from abroad and would like the briefing in English, mention it in the notes.
Frequently asked questions
- How long does the whole trip take from Milan?
- Plan for a good half day: about an hour's drive each way and 2-3 hours at the airfield for check-in, briefing and the jump. By train it takes longer because of the change and the last stretch to the airfield.
- Do the instructors speak English?
- Yes. Yes: all our instructors give the briefing in either Italian or English, and jumps with international visitors are routine.
- Can I reach the airfield by public transport?
- The train takes you to Casale Monferrato station, about 4 km by road from the airfield. You will need to arrange that last stretch yourself, as we do not offer a transport service: if you can, come by car.
- Can my friends watch the jump?
- Yes. The airfield has a waiting area with a bar where friends and family can follow the jump and watch you land.
- Can I add photos and video on the day?
- Yes, subject to the photographer's availability. If you already know you want them, mention it when you book: the HandyCam video costs €40, professional photos or video €70, and both €90.
