What is tandem skydiving?

Tandem skydiving is a parachute jump you make harnessed to a professional instructor, who controls every technical part of the flight while you simply enjoy the experience. The word “tandem” describes two people connected one behind the other, working as a single unit — exactly how you and your instructor exit the aircraft, freefall, and land together under one large parachute.

It’s the standard way first-timers experience skydiving worldwide, because it removes all the complexity:

– No training course required
– No licence or certification needed
– No physical preparation necessary
– The instructor manages exit, freefall stability, parachute deployment and landing

Your only job is to breathe, look around, and take in the view.

What is a tandem parachute jump like, step by step?

A tandem parachute jump is a complete experience that usually takes 2 to 3 hours from arrival to landing, even though the freefall itself lasts under a minute. Here’s how a jump unfolds at our dropzone:

1. Check-in and briefing. You arrive, sign in, and get a short, simple briefing — body position on exit, and what to do with your legs on landing.
2. Gearing up. The instructor fits your tandem harness, connecting you at four points (shoulders and hips).
3. The climb. The aircraft climbs to 4,200 metres. This takes around 15–20 minutes and is a beautiful ride in itself, with views over the Piedmont plain toward the Alps.
4. The exit and freefall. You leave the aircraft attached to your instructor and fall at roughly 200 km/h for about 50–60 seconds.
5. Under canopy. The instructor deploys the parachute and the descent becomes calm and quiet. This gentle glide lasts several minutes.
6. Landing. A smooth, controlled landing guided entirely by the instructor.

Where can you go skydiving in Italy near Milan?

The closest real skydiving experience to Milan is at Casale Monferrato, in Piedmont — roughly an hour’s drive from the Milan metro area. Many people search for “skydiving in Milan,” but there is no dropzone inside the city itself: aircraft need dedicated airfield space, so the nearest true tandem skydiving is just west of the city.

Our dropzone is at:
Aeroporto F. Cappa — Strada Statale per Alessandria, 15033 Casale Monferrato (AL), Piedmont, Italy

This makes it a realistic day trip if you’re staying in Milan, Turin, or anywhere in northern Italy.

How much does tandem skydiving cost in Italy?

Tandem skydiving in Italy generally ranges from around €250 to €350 for the jump, with optional add-ons like photos and video of your experience. Prices vary by dropzone, altitude, and whether media is included.

Because prices and current promotions change through the season, the most accurate figure is always on our booking page — or email us and we’ll confirm the up-to-date rate and availability for your travel dates.

For visitors who want to give the experience as a present, we also offer gift jumps, which are popular for birthdays and special occasions.

What should you wear to skydive?

To skydive, wear comfortable athletic clothing and closed, well-laced trainers — dress as you would for an outdoor sports activity, avoiding anything loose or flapping.

– Trainers / running shoes with laces (no sandals, no slip-ons, no boots)
– Long athletic trousers or leggings — comfortable under the harness
– A fitted top, not too baggy
– A light layer if it’s cool — it’s colder at altitude than on the ground
– Tie back long hair
– Leave jewellery at home — no necklaces, dangling earrings, scarves or hoods

Is tandem skydiving in Italy safe?

Modern tandem skydiving is one of the most tightly regulated adventure activities in Italy, with certified instructors, a reserve parachute on every rig, and an automatic activation device that can deploy the reserve if needed. All Italian skydiving schools operate under ENAC (the Italian Civil Aviation Authority).

At our dropzone, safety rests on three pillars: certified, highly experienced instructors; regularly inspected, modern equipment with redundant safety systems; and strict operating procedures refined over more than two decades of jumps.

How do you book a tandem skydive in Italy?

Booking is simple, and you can do it from abroad before you travel:

– Book online through our booking page to secure your date
– Email us at info@accademiadiparacadutismo.it — the easiest option if you’re calling from outside Italy
– Phone (from within Italy): Luca, +39 333 69 45 488

We recommend booking ahead, especially in spring and summer, and building in flexibility: skydiving depends on weather, so having a backup day in your Italy itinerary is smart.

Frequently asked questions about tandem skydiving in Italy

1. Do I need any experience to do a tandem skydive?

No. A tandem jump is designed for complete beginners — no course, licence or preparation is required. The instructor handles everything technical.

2. What's the minimum age to skydive in Italy?

Tandem skydiving generally requires you to be at least 16, with parental consent for minors. Contact us to confirm requirements for your situation.

3. Can I skydive if I wear glasses?

Yes. You'll be given goggles that fit over your glasses, and contact lenses are usually fine too.

4. How high is the jump?

Our tandem jumps are from 4,200 metres (about 13,780 feet), giving roughly 50–60 seconds of freefall.

5. What happens if the weather is bad?

Skydiving is weather-dependent. If conditions aren't safe on your day, the jump is rescheduled — which is why we suggest keeping some flexibility in your travel plans.

6. Can I bring friends to watch?

Absolutely. The dropzone is a great place to spectate, and group jumps are popular.

7. Do I need to speak Italian to skydive with you?

No. Our instructors are used to working with international visitors, and the briefing for a tandem jump is short and visual. Basic English is perfectly fine for a smooth, safe experience.
